San Ysidro
A man was killed trying to cross Interstate 5, just south of Interstate 805 in San Ysidro, Monday night, authorities said.
Maria de Los Angeles Ortiz, 21, was driving northbound at 50 m.p.h. in a 1983 Plymouth when she struck the man about 10 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers said.
Authorities believe the man was Mexican but have not established his identity.
The death occurred in an area where there has been a rash of pedestrian deaths. Freeways near the border have become dangerous barriers to illegal aliens who try to cross them at night.
