A pipe bomb planted beneath a classic truck exploded early Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to the truck, Police Lt. John Buchholz said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was called to the scene on La Habra Boulevard near Washington Middle School, where the bomb exploded about 2 a.m. Police interviewed the owner of the truck, but he provided no information on a possible motive for the bombing, Buchholz said.
Police received a telephone tip about the bombing shortly before 2 a.m. but were not able to locate the damaged pickup until about 10 a.m., Buchholz said. Authorities have no suspects in the bombing.
The truck’s tires were damaged and there was extensive damage to the undercarriage and body. Buchholz could not provide an estimated value for the vintage Ford truck, which had been parked beside an apartment complex.
