The second of two Arizona men accused of kidnaping, severely beating and stabbing an elderly La Canada Flintridge woman pleaded not guilty last week in Glendale Municipal Court.

Paul Edward Keeling, 20, was arraigned Thursday on charges of robbery, kidnaping for the purpose of robbery and attempted murder. He and Randall J. Countryman, 18, are charged in connection with the July 8 kidnaping of 77-year-old Eloise Purdy, who survived.

Prosecutors said they hope to try Countryman and Keeling together.

Keeling was extradited last week from Arizona, where he had been held since July when Arizona authorities arrested him and Countryman on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle. The two men were spotted driving Purdy’s 1988 Cadillac Seville.
