Local News in Brief : Sunland Cyclist Dies After Hitting Curb
A 33-year-old Sunland man was killed after his motorcycle struck a curb at high speed and hit a sign pole and a fire hydrant, Los Angeles police said Thursday.
Officer Dwight Gillett said John Carpenter, who was not wearing a helmet, was heading west on Sunland Boulevard at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when he failed to negotiate a curve at Stonehurst Avenue in Sun Valley.
Witnesses told police that Carpenter was traveling at least 75 m.p.h. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
