Not Seeking Florida Job, Erickson Says
Washington State University football coach Dennis Erickson says he is not interested in replacing Miami coach Jimmy Johnson and has not talked to the Florida school.
Erickson had been rumored to be a leading candidate to replace Johnson, who is leaving to replace Tom Landry as coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Erickson, however, said Sunday he has not talked with Miami officials about the job.
“And I’m not going to,” he said. “I’m staying at Washington State. That’s what I wanted to do, and I feel very, very much obligated to do that.”
Erickson, in the second year of a five-year contract with WSU, abruptly left Wyoming two years ago after telling players not to believe news reports he was considering the Washington State job. Erickson now says he regrets the way he departed Wyoming and says he could have handled the situation better.
