Phoenix Cardinals fullback Earl Ferrell, who was missing for two days after last season, apologized to his teammates and fans and said he still is undergoing counseling for drug use.

“I’d like to apologize to my teammates, the organization, the fans--everybody who was concerned for my welfare--for the problems that I caused them,” Ferrell said at a news conference at East High School in Phoenix.

The Arizona Republic reported Dec. 18--the day of Phoenix’s regular-season finale against Green Bay--that Ferrell tested positive three times for cocaine use in 1988 but had not been suspended by the league.
