Pat Quinn, who led Saddleback High School into the Southern Section’s 5-AA division title game, and Steve Keith, who led Irvine into the 5-A division title game, were named the boys’ coaches for the Orange County All-Star basketball game June 25 in UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

Brad Pickler of Savanna and Stan DeMaggio of Capistrano Valley were named as coaches for the girls’ game, which will be a preliminary to the boys’ game.

Pickler will coach the north girls’ team after leading Savanna to a school-record 18 victories this season. DeMaggio will coach the south team.

In the boys’ game, Quinn will coach the north and Keith will coach the south under a revised format for selecting participants.

The boundary for selecting coaches and members of the teams will be the Costa Mesa Freeway continuing north through Placentia and Yorba Linda. Schools on the west side of the freeway will designated as the north schools and the schools to the east will be designated as South schools.

The north will be composed of 49 schools, including members of the Sunset League, Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Servite and Saddleback. The south will be composed of 25 schools, including members of the South Coast League, Corona del Mar and Foothill.

Previously, the Garden Grove Freeway served as the dividing line for selecting the teams, but a recent shift in population in the Irvine, Mission Viejo and El Toro areas prompted the change. The North boys trail in the series, 13-10.
