The Preps : Baseball Roundup : El Dorado Slams Past Saddleback for 15-0 Win

Shane Borowski pitched a four-hitter and hit a grand slam and a double to lead El Dorado High School to a 15-0 victory over Saddleback Monday in a quarterfinal game of the Santa Ana Elks tournament at Rancho Santiago College.

Wayne Hefft hit a two-run home run for El Dorado (8-2). Phil Nevin had three hits, including a three-run double for El Dorado, which plays Ocean View today at 1:30 p.m. at Rancho Santiago College in the semifinal round.

In other championship bracket games of the Santa Ana tournament:

Ocean View 9, Santa Ana 7--Daniel Hernandez had three hits, including a double and two RBIs for Ocean View (8-2). Duane Page (1-0) went four innings for the victory. Bob Reimers had three hits and two RBIs to lead Santa Ana (5-4).

Mission Viejo 15, Villa Park 8--Eric Ekdahl, Rocky Rooten and Jake Corbin hit home runs for Mission Viejo. C.J. Johnson hit a three-run home run and had five RBIs for Villa Park (3-6).

Diamond Bar 5, Tustin 3--Eddie Mylett had two hits RBIs for Diamond Bar (4-3).

In the consolation bracket:

Laguna Hills 12, Orange 2--Joe Bennett and Mike Helm had three hits each and Jason Thompson and Mark Wells had three RBIs each for Laguna Hills (5-3).

El Toro 10, Foothill 8--Scott Sebbo’s one-out double in the top of the seventh inning drove in Scott Toppo to give El Toro a 9-8 lead.

Los Alamitos 5, Pacifica 3--Tony Napolitano had three hits, including a home run and two RBIs, to lead Los Alamitos (4-6). Kevin Ashworth had two hits and an RBI for Pacifica (2-6).

Irvine 2, Santa Ana Valley 0--Santa Ana Valley pitcher Scott Crosby gave up just one hit, but two unearned runs.

In the championship bracket of the Anaheim Lions’ tournament:

Westminster 9, Anaheim 1--Brett Grebe (4-0) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 13 for Westminster (7-2). Brent Heredia went three for five with three RBIs, and Jeff Fortune went three for four with three RBIs to help the Lions.

Kennedy 1, Sonora 0--Greg Hansell threw a one-hitter and had 12 strikeouts for Kennedy (3-1).

Dana Hills 4, Garden Grove 4 (8 innings)--Dana Hills advanced by getting more runners to third base. Garden Grove led, 4-1, in the fifth but Dana Gills scored two runs in the fifth and tied it in the sixth. Dan Geaney tripled and was squeezed home by Albie Sukut.

In the consolation bracket:

Canyon 5, Western 4 (6 innings, time limit)--Bobby Thompson had a RBI single to give Canyon (4-5) a 5-3 lead in the fifth.

In the championship bracket of the Pride of the Coast tournament:

Estancia 4, Artesia 1--Gabe Javage gave up six hits, one unearned run and struck out seven for the victory at Estancia. Sophomore Paul McDaniels and Marco Vasquez both went two for three with an RBI, and Gary Burrows added a triple to help Estancia (6-3).

Capistrano Valley 13, Santa Fe 4--Chris Lugo had three hits and two RBIs and Dan Zamora and Jack Mackay had two hits and two RBIs each for Capistrano Valley (6-2). David Guillen had a two-run home run for Capistrano Valley.

In the consolation bracket:

Lynwood 5, Costa Mesa 2--Dave Salladay hit a home run for Costa Mesa, which also turned a triple play in the sixth inning.

Corona del Mar 4, Rancho Alamitos 2--Rich Mather (1-0) went four innings, striking out two, for the Sea Kings (3-5). John Paulsen had three hits and two runs scored for Corona del Mar. Bob Lee had an RBI double for Rancho Alamitos (3-4).

Bolsa Grande 2, Dominguez 0--Rick Tantardini went two for three and drove in both runs to lead Bolsa Grande (5-3).

In the Pomona Elks tournament:

Cypress 4, Walnut 3--Mark Macalello singled in two runs in the third inning for the first-round victory at Mt. San Antonio College.
