SINGLE-FAMILY HOME PERMITS DECREASE
The number of permits issued for new single-family homes dropped 45% between December, 1988, and January, 1989. The January total, 479, was the lowest monthly figure since the 455 issued last September and the lowest January number since the 412 issued in 1986. It was also 29% below the number issued last January. The deepest declines occurred in the unincorporated areas and in the cities of Irvine and Anaheim. Orange and Huntington Beach registered the largest increases. Here’s a city-by-city look contrasting January, 1988, and January, 1989:
