Stormy But Valid Winner by a Neck in La Habra Stakes
Stormy But Valid, ridden by Gary Stevens, beat odds-on favorite Hot Novel in the final strides Wednesday to win the $81,600 La Habra Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by a neck on the Santa Anita turf.
Hot Novel, top-weighted at 120 pounds and ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, took the lead near the wire. But Stormy But Valid, carrying four fewer pounds, came on again to take the photo finish and record her third victory in five starts.
Stormy But Valid, making her first start on the turf, was timed in 1:14 4/5 for 6 1/2 furlongs and paid $8.40, $3 and $2.40.
