NCAA Division II Women’s Tournament : CP Pomona Beats Bentley in Semifinal
Niki Bracken’s 15-foot jump shot with two seconds left in the second overtime lifted third-ranked Cal Poly Pomona to an 84-83 victory over Bentley (Mass.) College Friday night in the semifinals of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Division II women’s basketball tournament at Cleveland, Miss.
Pomona will play host Delta State for the NCAA title at 6, PST, tonight.
Bracken’s winning shot came after Bentley had taken an 83-82 lead with 11 seconds left.
“Carrie (Egan) drove toward the baseline, and everybody collapsed on her,” said Bracken, a former Compton High School standout. “I went to the high post, that’s my favorite shot, and I got the ball.”
Bracken finished the game with 19 points, on eight-of-23 shooting, and a game-high 16 rebounds. Cathy Gooden added a game-high 25 points for the Broncos.
