Transfers of Power Pack a Wallop for Chatsworth

Eric Johnson and Jason Evans, both senior transfers at Chatsworth High, have emerged as leading men in the Chancellor lineup. Johnson, a catcher from Michigan, has four home runs and 15 runs batted in. Evans, a shortstop from Loyola High, has three home runs and 14 RBIs.

Chatsworth, with seven starters averaging better than .300, are batting .358 as a team and .408 through four West Valley League games. Six players have hit home runs and five have 10 or more RBIs. Through nine games, Chatsworth has outscored the opposition, 102-33.

Hitting: Aaron Weiss of Chaminade (4-7) was four for five with three RBIs in two games last week. Weiss, a sophomore first baseman, had the game-winning RBI in the Eagles’ first three victories.

Steals: Saugus center fielder Darrell Davis has 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts. Davis, who stole a school-record 30 bases last season, needs three more to become the Centurions’ career leader.

Simi Valley has 44 stolen bases in 13 games. . . . Rio Mesa’s Tom Deardorff (10 for 10), Dmitri Young (six for six) and David Frazier (five for five) have combined for 21 steals without being caught. . . . Chaminade was nine for nine in two games last week and is 19 of 23 for the season.

Softball: Senior left-hander Cathy Lewis (7-5) of Saugus has hurled three no-hitters--including a perfect game--and yielded just two earned runs this season. But Saugus has lost four 1-0 games. Lewis, in her fourth season on the varsity, has five career no-hitters, including two perfect games. She has posted career marks of 624 strikeouts and an 0.38 earned-run average in 439 innings. This season, Lewis has 145 strikeouts and an 0.17 ERA.
