Malibu : 21 Drunk-Driving Arrests

Share

As part of its campaign to combat drunk-driving accidents in this coastal community, the California Highway Patrol arrested 21 people for driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend.

Although rain forced the CHP to cancel a scheduled sobriety checkpoint, the CHP was able to use the extra officers to patrol a large area along Pacific Coast Highway, CHP spokesman Cliff Williams said.

Last week, the CHP launched a designated-driver program through which local restaurants offer free soft drinks and food to one person in any group who agrees to abstain from alcohol for the evening and drive friends home. So far, 17 restaurants have signed up for the program.
