Local : Chase Ends in Suspect’s Death
A burglary suspect was shot to death by Inglewood police on the Santa Monica Freeway this morning after a two-hour, 100-mile chase through three counties at speeds of up to 100 m.p.h., officers reported.
Officers said they shot Javier Salvador Arreola, 23, after finally stopping him at 2:16 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near La Brea Avenue because he appeared to be rummaging for a weapon. They said they found “a substantial amount” of cocaine in his van, but it was not immediately determined whether he had a weapon. Officers said the pursuit began after Arreola was seen circling a construction site.
Traffic on the freeway was blocked for more than four hours by the police investigation.
