Prep Roundup : Patton Pitches a No-Hitter in University’s 13-1 Victory

Shareen Patton pitched a no-hitter as University High School defeated Estancia, 13-1, Friday in a Sea View League softball game at University.

Estancia scored in the third inning on a pair of walks, a sacrifice and a double steal. The game was called after five innings.

Patton (6-3) struck out five and walked only two. Lisa Anthony had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple, for the Trojans (8-5, 3-2).

In the Canyon softball tournament:

Newbury Park 6, Los Alamitos 4--Lea Lopez (5-7) pitched a two-hitter, striking out five, for Newbury Park in the consolation championship game of the 5-A division.

Millikan 1, Buena Park 0--Tracy Smith (6-5) pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13, for Millikan in the consolation championship game of the 4-A division. Michelle Shanks had a run-scoring double in the sixth for the Rams.

Hawthorne 5, Savanna 1--Lisa Smith (4-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight, in the fifth-place game of the 4-A division.

In Sunset League golf:

Edison 301, Westminster 345--Jason Vanderplas of Edison shot a five-over 54 at Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. Edison is 6-4, 2-0. Westminster is 4-5, 0-2.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Brea-Olinda 80, Fullerton 76--Brea (5-1) won on the final event of the meet by taking the 400-yard relay in 3 minutes 24.45 seconds.

Laguna Hills 86, Sonora 84--Jim Miller won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle to lead Sonora. Miller won the 50 in 23.22 and the 100 in 51.67.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Laguna Hills 82, Sonora 82--Ashley Stedfield led Laguna Hills to a tie by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.90 and the 200 freestyle in 2:20.47.

In Angelus League boys’ tennis:

Mater Dei 13, Bishop Montgomery 5--Dax Peterson swept his singles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Mater Dei (10-1, 6-0) at Bishop Montgomery.

In the Orange League:

Savanna 12, Anaheim 6--Mike Switzer and Joon Yim swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, as the Rebels (5-7, 5-2) won all nine of the doubles sets at Savanna.

Valencia 14, Western 4--Danny Yu of Valencia led a singles sweep in the victory at Western. Yu won his sets, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. Valencia is 7-3, 7-0. Western is 10-3, 5-2.

In the Sea View League:

University 15, Estancia 3----Willie Dann swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for the Trojans (7-2, 4-1) at University.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 14, Irvine 4--Rodrigo Zulian swept his singles sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-1, for Mission Viejo (12-1, 2-1) at Irvine.

In Sea View league boys’ volleyball:

University 3, Foothill 0--Todd Labeaune had 39 assists as the Trojans (5-1, 1-1) swept, 15-3, 15-6, 15-9, at University.
