Ceballos and Jones Win Titan Awards

Cedric Ceballos was honored as Cal State Fullerton’s leading scorer, and Derek Jones was named comeback player of the year at Fullerton’s basketball awards banquet Friday.

Ceballos averaged 21 points game for the Titans, who were 16-13 this season, and Jones averaged 12 points and seven rebounds after recovering from critical gun-shot wounds suffered in a drive-by shooting in 1987.

Mark Hill, who set a school record with 75 three-point baskets, was honored with the three-point award.

Other awards were given to Randal Moos (academics), Wayne Williams (assist leader with 5.2 a game), and Van Anderson (most inspirational).

Fullerton honored Gary and Linda Calvin, Brent Calvin’s parents, as fans of the year. Calvin was given the coaches’ award.

Bruce Bowen, a 6-foot-6 guard from Fresno Edison, was at the banquet and said he has committed to Fullerton. He averaged 20 points for Edison, which lost to Crenshaw in the state Division I playoffs.

Dareck Crane, a 6-3 guard who averaged 18.1 points a game for Orange Coast last season, also said Friday that he has committed to Fullerton.
