Graf, Navratilova, Sabatini Are Easy Winners in Florida
Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Gabriela Sabatini scored straight-set wins Thursday to gain the quarterfinals of the $300,000 Bausch & Lomb tennis tournament.
The top-ranked Graf, of West Germany, beat Laura Lapi of Italy, 6-1, 6-0; second-seeded Navratilova cruised past Linda Ferrando of Italy, 6-1, 6-1, and Sabatini, of Argentina, defeated Jana Pospisilova of Czechoslovakia, 6-3, 6-3.
Graf’s opponent today will be Hana Mandlikova of Australia, who scored a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Karin Schimper of South Africa.
Navratilova will face Kathy Rinaldi, who downed Leila Meskhi of the Soviet Union, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Sabatini will meet Angeliki Kanellopoulou of Greece, who ousted Andrea Temesvari of Hungary, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
The other quarterfinal will pit Arantxa Sanchez of Spain against Judith Wiesner of Austria.
