Cal Lutheran to Play 3 WFC Teams in Football

Share

Cal Lutheran, which is in the process of moving to NCAA Division III status in athletics, will retain auxiliary status in the Division II Western Football Conference for one more season before joining the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Kingsmen will retain half of their conference schedule and the benefit of using WFC officials, but the team will not be eligible for the conference championship and its players will not be considered for all-conference honors.

Cal Lutheran’s games against WFC teams will be Oct. 7 at Cal State Northridge, Oct. 21 at Santa Clara and at home against Southern Utah State on Oct. 28. With Portland State, Cal State Sacramento and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo dropped from the schedule, CLU will play host to La Verne on Sept. 23 and at UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 30.

Former Cal State Northridge standouts Thor Lee and Joey Kirk may square off when the Los Angeles Lazers play host to the Wichita Wings in a Major Indoor Soccer League match Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Forum.

The match originally was scheduled for Saturday night but was changed to avoid a conflict with the National Hockey League playoff series between the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers.

Kirk has three goals and two assists for the Wings. Lee has one goal, three assists and 22 blocked shots for the Lazers.
