Sabatini Rallies to Reach Semifinals
Gabriela Sabatini of Argentina came back from one set down to beat Angeliki Kanellopoulou of Greece Friday and join Steffi Graf of West Germany, Martina Navratilova and Arantxa Sanchez of Spain in the semifinals of the Amelia Island tennis tournament.
The third-seeded Sabatini was broken twice in the first set by Kanellopoulou but was perfect on serve after that and went on to post a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. She’ll play the second-seeded Navratilova, who defeated Kathy Rinaldi, 6-1, 6-4.
Graf, seeded No. 1, posted her 30th successive match win by downing Hana Mandlikova of Australia, 6-3, 6-4, and will play Sanchez, seeded sixth, who ousted Judith Weisner of Austria, 6-4, 7-5.
