The Preps : Roundup : Brundage Gets Third Straight No-Hitter

Jennifer Brundage of Irvine High School pitched her third consecutive no-hitter, beating Dana Hills, 1-0, Friday in a South Coast League game at Irvine. Brundage, who also has pitched no-hitters over El Toro and Foothill, struck out nine and walked one.

Brundage also scored the only run of the game, coming home on an error in the first inning as Irvine improved to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in league.

In other South Coast League games:

Mission Viejo 13, Capistrano Valley 1--Erin Fitzgerald (7-2) pitched a one-hitter for Mission Viejo. The Diablos (11-5, 2-0) made the most of five hits, taking advantage of six errors. Michelle Daugherty led Mission Viejo with a three-run home run and a two-run triple.

San Clemente 1, El Toro 0--Danielle Schneeloch doubled and scored on an error in the sixth inning for San Clemente’s only hit and run of the game. Paige Lauby struck out 12 and walked one in the losing effort. Tera Roush limited El Toro (12-9, 0-2) to five hits, striking out five and walking three. San Clemente (8-8, 2-0) is in a three-way tie for first place in the South Coast League.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 5, Marina 0--Pam Fogg pitched a two-hitter to visiting Huntington Beach (9-8, 2-0). Jennifer Johnson had a hit and two RBIs and April Crosby had a hit and an RBI for Huntington Beach, Marina is 1-1 in league.

Ocean View 5, Westminster 0--Marla Pickard and Jennifer Kimble combined to shut out host Westminster, allowing one hit. Ocean View (12-9, 1-1) had eight hits. Westminster is 1-13 overall and 0-2 in league.

In South Coast League golf:

San Clemente 221, Mission Viejo 228--John Sabella shot a three-over 39 for Mission Viejo at Pacific Golf Club.

In Sunset League golf:

Huntington Beach 388, Marina 422--Travis Brasher shot two-over 74 at Seacliff to lead Huntington Beach (4-0) Marina is 3-1.

In nonleague golf:

Dana Hills 377, Indio 440--Mike Bestor and Scott Richardson shot one-over 73s to lead Dana Hills (13-1).

In Orange League tennis:

Valencia 14, Anaheim 4--Danny Yu swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for visiting Valencia, which is 9-0 in league.

Savanna 14, Magnolia 4--Alan Aseniero swept at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1, for host Savanna (6-3 in league).

In Angelus League tennis:

Mater Dei 15, St. Paul 3--No. 1 singles player Dax Peterson and the No. 3 doubles team of Mike McFarland and Doug Bettencourt each swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Monarchs (12-1, 7-0).

In Empire League tennis:

Esperanza 11 2/3, Cypress 9 1/3--The Aztecs’ No. 2 doubles team of John Hawley and Take Catsube won, 7-6, 3-6, 6-0 to improve to 25-5. Esperanza improved to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in league.

In Orange League tennis:

Western 15, Brea-Olinda 3--All the Pioneers’ singles swept, led by Ed Peregrino, who won, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0. Western improved to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in league.

In Pacific Coast League volleyball:

Laguna Hills 3, Trabuco Hills 1--Trent DeVreugd had 18 kills and 11 stuff blocks to lead Laguna Hills’ 15-1, 15-13, 11-15, 15-8 victory.

In Sea View League volleyball:

University 3, Newport Harbor 1--Stefan Mumaw had 16 kills and Jeremy Hatt added 15 as University (7-1, 3-1) defeated Newport Harbor (4-4, 2-2), 15-11, 10-15, 15-12, 15-9, at Newport Harbor.

Corona del Mar 3, Estancia 0--Jason Perkins had seven kills and four blocks as Corona del Mar (5-1, 4-0) defeated host Estancia, 15-3, 15-6, 15-9.

In South Coast League volleyball:

El Toro 3, Dana Hills 0--Danny Williams had 13 kills and five blocks to lead the Chargers, 15-13, 15-12, 15-5.

San Clemente 3, Mission Viejo 1--Mike McGannon had 11 kills to lead San Clemente (5-5, 2-2), 3-15, 15-7, 16-14, 15-11, at Mission Viejo.

In Sunset League volleyball:

Edison 3, Ocean View 0--Senior outside hitter Mike Diehl had 10 kills and junior setter Aaron Boone had 10 kills and 23 assists to lead Edison, 15-8, 15-6, 15-7.
