Dominic Olejniczak, former president of the Green Bay Packers Corp. and a former Green Bay mayor, died Saturday morning at his home.

Olejniczak’s death was stroke-related, a relative said.

Olejniczak, 80, was president of the National Football League for 24 years and spent 10 years as the city’s mayor.

He became president of the Packers on April 28, 1958, when the team was struggling. The Packers had not had a winning record in 10 years and had just finished their worst season ever with a 1-10 record.

Olejniczak headed the search committee that brought Vince Lombardi to Green Bay as coach and general manager, which launched the most successful era in the team’s history.
