COLLEGE SIGNING

Aaron Wilhite of Lincoln High School signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Cal State Fullerton, making him the first San Diego County high school player to sign with a National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Division I school since the spring signing period began last Wednesday.

Brooks Barnhard (USD), Kevin Flanagan (Arizona), Terrence Hamilton (SDSU) and Courtie Miller (SDSU) all signed in November.

Wilhite, 6-feet-7, will play power forward for the Titans. He was a three-year starter for the Hornets, and this season he averaged 23.9 points, 15 rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists per game.

“I felt I could come in right now and be an impact player,” he said.

Citing Fullerton’s engineering program, coaching staff and proximity, Wilhite chose the Titans over Oregon State, Northern Arizona and San Diego State.

“I’m very happy about his decision,” said Ron Loneski, Lincoln coach. “I think he’s made an excellent choice.”

Point Loma Nazarene sophomore Dan Raatjes (7-0 in the high jump) and freshman Christian Andreasson (49-11 3/4 in the triple jump) are each ranked No. 1 in their events in the latest National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics national rankings.
