San Diego police asked the public for help Thursday in finding a car involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a woman and her son earlier this week.
The car was described by police as a “puke-green” 1974 Ford Maverick with its hood held down by a chain and padlock. The car has no front grill and may have gray primer paint on one fender, said Sgt. Michael Healy. The California license plate number is 1PVW557.
Police said the car struck two of four people who were illegally crossing the street in the 2500 block of Polk Avenue about 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Agnes Gooden of the 4300 block of Florida Street was hospitalized overnight at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Her son James, 12, was in good condition Thursday at Children’s Hospital with a broken left arm and right leg, a hospital spokesman said.
Police said they obtained a description of the car after talking to witnesses, including one person who chased the car unsuccessfully. They also tracked down a former owner of the car who told them it had recently been sold.
