Prep Roundup : Hough Helps Brea-Olinda Swimmers Top Woodbridge

Senior Jeremy Hough won the 200-meter intermediate medley in 2 minutes 2.65 seconds and the 100-meter butterfly in 55.72 to pace visiting Brea-Olinda (7-2) to an 80-76 victory over Woodbridge in nonleague boys’ swimming Friday at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Woodbridge senior Chad Hundeby won the 200-meter freestyle in 1:49.72 and the 100-meter freestyle in 46.90.

In Angelus League boys’ tennis:

Mater Dei 13, Bishop Amat 5--Dax Peterson swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Mater Dei (14-1, 9-0) at Bishop Amat.

In Empire League boys’ tennis:

Cypress 14 2/3, Loara 6 1/3--Cypress’ doubles team of Son Pham and Otto Liao improved its record to 4-0 in league play with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 victory.

In Olympic League boys’ tennis:

Santa Margarita 15, Whittier Christian 3--No. 1 singles player Jason Scanlon swept, 7-6, 6-3, 6-0, to lead Santa Margarita (9-2, 8-2).

In Orange League boys’ tennis:

Western 13, Anaheim 5--Ed Peregrino improved his record to 27-6 in league matches, sweeping, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, as host Western improved to 15-3 overall and 9-2 in the league.

Valencia 15, Magnolia 3--Valencia stayed perfect in league matches, improving to 11-0 and 11-3 overall.

In South Coast League boys’ tennis:

Mission Viejo 14, Irvine 4--Mission Viejo (14-3, 4-3) had sweeps by second singles player Rahim Boroumand, who won 6-4, 7-6, 6-2, and by its first doubles team of Dave Allen and Vince Cheng, who won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3. Irvine dropped to 1-6 in the league.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Santa Barbara 12, Corona del Mar 6--Santa Barbara (14-0), the No. 1 ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A, swept its singles matches as fourth-ranked Corona del Mar dropped to 14-3.

Woodbridge 11, Estancia 7--Woodbridge was led by senior Randy Ivey, who won in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Woodbridge improved its mark to 12-3 overall.

In South Coast League golf:

Dana Hills 208, El Toro 211--Mike Bestor shot a 39 to help lead Dana Hills (16-1, 7-1) and clinch a league co-championship with El Toro.

In Sunset League golf:

Huntington Beach 270, Westminster 351 (12 holes)--Scott Gibson shot a two-over-par 51 to lead host Huntington Beach (10-3, 6-0) over Westminster (0-6) at Seacliff Country Club.

In nonleague golf:

Estancia 191, Esperanza 201--Ken Calvert and Mike Joyner both shot one-over par 36 to lead Estancia (13-0) at Yorba Linda Country Club.

In Empire League volleyball:

Esperanza 3, Santa Ana 0--Jason Galeener had 11 kills to lead Esperanza’s 15-11, 15-9, 15-11 victory. Esperanza is 9-3, 7-2.

Los Alamitos 3, El Dorado 1--Greg Sorenson had 11 kills and three service aces as the Griffins (12-2, 7-1) won, 18-20, 15-5, 15-3, 15-12, at Valencia High School.

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

La Quinta 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Matt Williams had eight kills and three blocks, and Steve Kalajian had five service aces to lead host La Quinta, 15-6, 15-6, 15-7.

In South Coast League boys’ volleyball:

Capistrano Valley 3, San Clemente 1--Rob Crotty had 16 kills to lead Capistrano Valley (6-6, 3-3) to the 15-13, 15-10, 4-15, 15-5 victory.
