Prep Roundup : Corona del Mar Holds On to Win in Five Games

Chris Phila had 18 kills and 17 blocks as Corona del Mar High School defeated Newport Harbor, 15-12, 15-10, 10-15, 14-16, 15-5, in a Sea View League volleyball match Tuesday at Corona del Mar.

Matt Cwiertnia had 25 kills for the Sea Kings (9-1 overall, 7-0 in league play). Newport Harbor is 6-3 and 4-3.

In another Sea View League match:

University 3, Foothill 1--Stefan Mumaw had 12 kills as the Trojans (9-2, 5-2) won, 9-15, 15-2, 15-3, 15-3, at University.

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 3, San Clemente 0--Dan Williams had 16 kills and five blocks as the Chargers (11-2, 7-0) swept, 15-9, 15-1, 15-12, at El Toro.

Irvine 3, Dana Hills 1--Risto Lindfors had 18 kills as Irvine (4-9, 4-3) won, 15-13, 12-15, 15-12, 15-3.

Mission Viejo 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Greg Amaya had 18 kills and 13 blocks as Mission Viejo (4-6, 2-4) won, 19-17, 15-7, 14-16, 15-12, at Mission Viejo. Eric Lee had 18 kills for the Diablos.

In Orange League golf:

Valencia 210, Magnolia 277--Chris Tidland of Valencia shot a one-over-par 37 for Valencia (16-1, 6-1) at Alta Vista Country Club.

In Sea View League golf:

Estancia 405, Corona del Mar 428--Ken Calvert shot a two-over-par 74 to help Estancia (15-0, 8-0) clinch the league title at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa. Corona del Mar finished second in league play at 7-1.

Newport Harbor 288, Tustin 324 (12 holes)--Bryan Saltas shot four-over-par 52 for Newport Harbor (6-10, 2-6) at Costa Mesa Country Club.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 257, Westminster 277 (11 holes)--Jason Vanderplas shot a six-over-par 49 for Edison (9-6, 5-2) at Meadowlark golf course.

Huntington Beach 410, Fountain Valley 491 (18 holes)--Trent Fenzl shot a five-over 76 for Huntington Beach (11-3, 7-0) SeaCliff golf course.

Ocean View 417, Marina 424 (18 holes)--Mike Holmes shot a five-over 77 for Ocean View at Mile Square golf course.

Woodbridge 16, Laguna Hills 2--Eric Berg swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for Woodbridge (14-3, 8-0) at Laguna Hills.
