Taft’s Nahmias Remains a Nemesis of Pitchers

Taft High’s Glenn Nahmias draws little recognition, yet he is establishing himself as one of the Valley’s best hitters.

Nahmias, a senior outfielder, is batting .435 with 17 runs batted in, three home runs, three triples and six doubles--all team highs--and is working on a 14-game hitting streak.

Last season, Nahmias batted .406 with 21 RBIs and seven doubles--all team highs.

Batting: Del Marine of El Camino Real raised his average from .192 to .342 in two games last week after going seven for nine. . . . Royal’s Jason Jones was six for eight last week, including a four-for-four performance against Westchester on Saturday when he hit two home runs and a triple, drove in four runs and scored three. He has six home runs this season, tying the school record he set a year ago.

Birmingham’s Bob Bookatz raised his average from .366 to .416 last week. Teammate Diego Arcos has five hits in his past 10 at-bats.

Highland Hall’s Robert Ramirez hit his sixth triple last week, tying him for sixth place on the Southern Section list with, among others, former Simi Valley outfielder Shaun Murphy.

Streaks: San Fernando right-hander Frank Serna has Chatsworth’s number. Last year, Serna defeated Chatsworth, 5-2, in the semifinals of the City Section 4-A playoffs, ending a 24-game win streak. Tuesday, Serna snapped Chatsworth’s 16-game streak with a 3-1 win.
