Barmera, 25-1 Shot, Wins at Hollypark
Barmera, a 25-1 shot ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, led all the way for the second time in her last three starts to win the $32,000 turf feature at Hollywood Park Friday.
The 5-year-old daughter of The Bart covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41 1/5 and beat favored Maison Close by 1 1/4 lengths. Nairobi Express was another three lengths back in third.
Barmera returned $54.20, $19.80 and $8.80. She won $17,600 for trainer-owner John Sullivan, boosting her earnings to $65,675.
Maison Close, ridden by Chris McCarron, paid $3.20 and $3.
