A fire in a high school warehouse where toxic chemicals were stored forced evacuationof homes in the Mojave Desert community of Boron. Residents living downwind from the blaze left their houses while 30 Kern County firefighters battled the fire. Half a dozen peoplewere treated for allergic reactions to the smoke and two were taken to a hospital for observation. The warehouse contained Chlorox and a solvent, among other chemicals, according to a Fire Department spokesman. Damage to the building was estimated at $400,000.
