A 39-year-old East San Diego man was in critical condition Tuesday after he was shot by a group of juveniles who demanded to see his son.

Paul Holmes argued with more than a dozen youths who showed up at his door, in the 300 block of Northgate Street, about 11:30 p.m. Monday. After they argued, one of the boys pulled out a gun. When Holmes saw the weapon, he tried to run back inside, but the youth fired four shots through the door.

Three of the shots struck Holmes, who was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was in critical condition Tuesday. Police have made no arrests in the case.
