THE PREPS : Southern Section Playoffs : Woodbridge, Laguna Hills 1-2 in 2-A Tennis

Woodbridge and Laguna Beach high schools, rivals in the Pacific Coast League, earned the top two seedings in the Southern Section 2-A team tennis pairings, which were announced Tuesday.

Wild-card matches begin on Friday, with first-round play starting on Tuesday.

Woodbridge and Laguna Beach high schools are the Nos. 1 and 2 seeded teams, respectively, in the Southern Section 3-A team tennis pairings. It was incorrectly reported in Wednesday’s editions.

Led by singles player Randy Ivey, Woodbridge edged Laguna Beach and earned the league’s top berth to the playoffs and is top-seeded. The Warriors (15-4) plays host to the winner of the Claremont-Cypress wild-card game.

Laguna Beach, led by Jon Leach who was the Southern Section singles champion last year, is 17-3, second-seeded and plays host to Esperanza.

Sunny Hills (18-1) earned the No. 3 seeding and plays host to the winner of the Warren-Laguna Hills wild-card match.

In the 4-A division, Corona del Mar was seeded third and Newport Harbor, its Sea View League rival, was seeded fourth. Santa Barbara is No. 1.

Corona del Mar (16-4) plays the winner of the Bishop Amat-Nogales wild-card match in the first round. Newport Harbor (13-7) plays host to Marina (14-5).

In the 2-A division, Valencia (15-4) earned the No. 4 seeding and plays host to Bonita (12-8). Carpinteria Cate is seeded first.
