In other Metro Conference games:

Chula Vista 4, Bonita Vista 3--Garland Phillips singled in two runs during Chula Vista’s three-run sixth. Garrard Galvan (6-6) was the winner for host Chula Vista (9-13, 7-5). Bonita Vista is 12-14, 6-6.

Montgomery 6, Marian 1--Luis Arroyo pitched the Aztecs to only their third conference victory. Last-place Montgomery is 8-14, 3-9.

Coronado 1, Hilltop 0--Coronado (11-10, 6-6) scored one run in the fourth, but that was enough at Hilltop (8-14, 5-7). Andy Strasser picked up the victory, allowing just three hits.

Sweetwater 4, Southwest 3--Southwest scored twice in the seventh inning but stranded the winning run on base when Larry Meza struck out a Raider batter to end the inning. Sweetwater improved to 12-11, 7-5.

Palomar League

Poway 11, Fallbrook 2--John Uglow pitched his third consecutive complete game and struck out five to improve to 4-5. Uglow also went two for three with three RBIs. Greg Sorrell collected four hits--including a home run--and two RBIs. Poway improved to 11-11, 5-6.

Orange Glen 4, Vista 3--Host Orange Glen (11-13, 4-6) defeated Vista (15-6-1, 7-4) for the first time in three tries. Right fielder David Silva went two for three for Orange Glen and--with one out in the fourth and Orange Glen leading, 2-1--threw John Land out at home plate.

Torrey Pines 4, San Dieguito 3--With a puncture wound in his right foot and another in his left thigh, Ross Dixon came in to replace John Lynch when Lynch was ejected in the fourth. All Dixon did was come up to bat in the sixth with John Finley on second and deliver the game-winning RBI on a single.

Avocado League

San Pasqual 6, Oceanside 0--Mike Escarcega struck out eight, and teammate Eric Marsh singled in two runs in a five-run fifth for San Pasqual (7-5, 16-8), which kept its faint playoff hopes alive.

Rancho Buena Vista 3, Ramona 0--Steve Valencia went two for three, and John Robirds drove in two runs as RBV (7-5, 14-10) won its fourth in a row.

Escondido 16, El Camino 3--Mitch Anderson hit a three-run homer during host Escondido’s six-run second. But that wasn’t the only big inning for No. 9 Escondido (17-5, 10-2), which scored seven more in the sixth. Sam Spade (0-3), who left in the second, was the loser for El Camino (4-20, 0-12).

Carlsbad 3, San Marcos 0--Scott Karl (4-0) threw just 65 pitches for host Carlsbad (18-8, 11-1), going the distance and allowing just four hits. Jeff Myers hit a home run with none on for Carlsbad in the fourth. San Marcos is 6-16, 5-7.

Coastal League

Francis Parker 16, La Jolla Country Day 3--Francis Parker (15-6, 10-0) clinched the league title. Winner Will Beamer (7-0) struck out eight and was three for four with three RBIs and four runs scored.

Metro Conference

Mar Vista 5, Castle Park 1--Mar Vista foiled Castle Park pitcher Dawn Wood’s attempt to become the all-time winningest pitcher in San Diego Section history. Wood is tied with Cheryl Forehand (Santana, 1978-1981) and Tori Spiekerman (Fallbrook, 1985-1988) with 58 career victories.

Hilltop 8, Coronado 0--Sophomore pitcher Jackie Hill picked up her third shutout in three starts. Hilltop improved to 20-4, 12-0.
