The 4th annual Singers’ Salute to the Songwriter benefit at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 25 netted an estimated $450,000 for the Betty Clooney Foundation for Brain Injuries. Rosalind Wyman was chairwoman.

The 60-year-old Helping Hand Support Group of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center raised $500,000 in the last year from its operation of the gift shop at the hospital. The check was presented at a luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 5. The funds go to Cedars-Sinai’s department of obstetrics/gynecology. Merle Hyman and Harriet Rice were co-chairs.

The 3rd annual gala benefit at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 12 netted $250,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. and the Jerry Lewis ALS Clinical and Research Center. Ralph Mann and Katherine Lurie were co-chairs.

The annual Irving Berlin birthday party hosted at the Henry Mancinis’ home on May 13 netted an estimated $14,000 for the Foundation for New American Music, an organization to commission and disseminate symphonic jazz.

Gold Shield’s “An Afternoon in Three Acts” party at the Music Center on May 20 netted an estimated $25,000. The support group assists students with scholarships among other projects. Selma Civiletti was chairwoman.

The 2nd Annual Food, Wine & Brew Festival at the Pacific Asia Museum on May 2l netted an estimated $15,000 to be used for educational outreach programs and special schoolchildren’s tours and workshops at the museum. Edgardo Arcinue was chairman.

“The Phantom of the Opera” benefit at the Music Center on May 23 to benefit the Philip Mandelker AIDS Prevention Clinic, a program of the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center, netted an estimated $250,000. Michael Collins, Kevin Malone, Rand Schrader, Marc Schwartz and Andrew P. Teitel were co-chairs.

The art auction hosted by Robinson’s for the Sam Francis Foundation held at the Robinson’s Beverly Hills store on May 24 raised $100,000. The foundation supports research on infectious and environmental diseases.
