An additional stretch of car-pool lane opened Thursday on the northbound San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405) from Magnolia Avenue north to Springdale Street, Caltrans officials said.
The lane is designed to encourage ride sharing and is open only to drivers carrying at least one passenger.
With the extension, the commuter lane now stretches 10 miles from Magnolia north to the junction with the San Gabriel River Freeway in Seal Beach. By July, 1990, the lane is scheduled to extend from the San Gabriel freeway south to the junction with Interstate 5 in Irvine.
