American Legion Baseball : Nahmias Leads Woodland Hills to 11-5 Victory

Glenn Nahmias had three doubles and two runs batted in, and right-hander Chris Brown threw a six-hitter to lead Woodland Hills East to an 11-5 victory over host Reseda on Saturday in an American Legion District 20 Western Division game.

Brown struck out eight and walked three in the complete-game victory in Woodland Hills East’s opener. Telly Wickert picked up two of Reseda’s six hits with a two-run home run in the second inning and a double.

In other District 20 games:

Palmdale 11, San Fernando 10--Don Gravois’ run-scoring single in the ninth knocked in the winning run for host Palmdale in the Northern Division game.

With San Fernando leading, 10-9, Palmdale rallied for a run in the eighth to tie the score before winning it in the ninth. Steve Tellis singled in the ninth, advanced to second on a sacrifice fly and scored on Gravois’ single.

Bobby Corrales gave up two runs and four hits in relief of Hector De La Cruz, who went seven innings to suffer the loss. Corrales also had two home runs, a double, a single and seven RBIs.

Quartz Hill 18, Studio City 16--Roy Brown hit a pair of three-run home runs and had seven RBIs, and Jason Haner pitched two shutout innings in relief for host Quartz Hill.

Brown, a junior at Quartz Hill High, hit home runs in each of the first two innings. Brian Lovelace was four for four with two RBIs and two doubles and Rob Keller added two hits for Quartz Hill.

Joe Contrearez doubled, tripled and homered for Studio City.

Encino-Crespi 22, West Hills 5--Encino-Crespi parlayed two walks and six hits into a six-run third inning, then sent 14 batters to the plate in an 11-run fourth to turn the Western Division game into a runaway.

Dan Carroll picked up the win for Encino-Crespi.

Woodland Hills West 14, Valley ET 4: Jason Mitchell pitched a five-hitter and hit a sixth-inning home run to lead his team to a seven-inning win in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Paul Geller was three for four with three RBIs and Carl McFadden and Ryan McGuire each contributed two hits in a 13-hit attack.

Panorama City 10, Van Nuys-Notre Dame 2--Steven Martinez tripled for Van Nuys-Notre Dame’s only extra-base hit in its season-opening loss in the Eastern Division game at Panorama City.

DISTRICT 16

Westlake-Agoura 11, Ventura 10----Bob Grandpre singled to right in the 11th to knock in Brian Smith with the winning run at Ventura. Zac Miller hit a two-run single in the eighth for Westlake-Agoura to tie the score, 10-10. Smith doubled to center in the 11th and scored on Grandpre’s single.
