Lech Piasecki of Poland won the sprint portion of the 15th stage of the Tour of Italy cycling championship, and Laurent Fignon of France kept the pink jersey of the overall leader in Trento, Italy.

Jean Paul Van Poppel of the Netherlands finished first in the first phase of the 15th stage, a mountainous course from Corvara to Trento.

Fignon finished the sprint in 24th place, 2 minutes 16 seconds behind Piasecki, but the time was good enough for the overall lead because second-place Flavio Giupponi of Italy finished 29th and third-place Andrew Hampsten, last year’s winner, finished 32nd.
