SAN JOSE — The Santa Clara County coroner’s office said medical tests have found no evidence of drugs or alcohol in the body of former San Francisco 49er Carl Monroe, whose body was found in his apartment April 26.
John Manoc, the medical examiner’s chief investigator, said the cause of Monroe’s death at 29 has not been determined.
Four empty pill bottles were found in the apartment.
“With the negative drugs in the system, I don’t know what we’ll do,” Manoc said Monday. “No PCP or any other drugs were found, no alcohol, no nothing.”
Monroe scored the first touchdown for the 49ers against the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl four years ago.
The Police Department said that in view of the coroner’s findings, it is ending its investigation into how several bottles of prescription drugs under the names of different patients were in Monroe’s possession.
