Starkweather Picked for Coaching Honor

Mike Starkweather, who has coached Corona del Mar High School’s swimming program for the past five years, was named the National High School Athletic Coaches Assn. swimming coach of the year for Region 8.
Starkweather, whose selection was based on criteria including tenure, win-loss percentage and championships, was chosen by the National Awards Committee as one of eight regional nominees for the 1989 National Award.
Starkweather will receive his award June 24 at the association’s national convention at Phoenix.
