The State - News from June 12, 1989
A private investigator returned to Orange County from Switzerland to face charges that he allegedly beat John Wayne’s daughter at her ex-husband’s request. Oded Daniel Gal, 32, of Beverly Hills, was being held in lieu of $1-million bail. He gave up his extradition fight, returned to the United States on Friday and was charged with conspiracy to intimidate a witness and conspiracy to commit assault. Gal was hired by Aissa Wayne’s former husband, Thomas Gionis, to follow her during the couple’s custody dispute last year. He was accused of recruiting two men at Gionis’ direction to attack Wayne and her boyfriend, Roger Luby. Gionis, 35, was charged with assault and has denied any involvement. Gal was the fourth person accused in the October, 1988, attack at Luby’s Newport Beach estate.
