Chrissy Peck, who led El Camino Real High to the City Section 4-A Division softball championship, has been selected 4-A Player of the Year in a vote of coaches.

Peck, a junior transfer from Bel-Air Prep, compiled a 22-2 record and hurled a one-hit shutout against San Pedro in the title game two weeks ago at Cal State Northridge.

That win gave El Camino Real (23-2) its sixth City championship in seven years and fourth under fifth-year coach Neils Ludlow.

Peck, a 5-foot-6, 120-pound right-hander who batted .571 during the league season, also was spotlighted as KTTV-TV Athlete of the Week on June 9.

Ludlow has coached two other El Camino Real athletes who have been named player of the year.

Karen Walker, a shortstop, was honored in 1985 and Beth Silverman, who pitched the Conquistadores to City titles in 1986 and ‘88, received the award each of those years.

El Camino Real senior shortstop Lisa Huffaker and junior catcher Jenny Fleming also were named to the All-City squad. Cathy Balint, an All-City center fielder last season as a sophomore, was a second-team selection at third base this year.

Other first-team selections include infielder Gena Mena of San Fernando and outfielders Jennifer Mischler of Chatsworth and Gabriella Serratos of San Fernando.

Huffaker, a first-team pick three consecutive years, has signed a national letter of intent with CSUN. Mischler has accepted an appointment to attend West Point in the fall.
