Police in Fresno arrested dozens of demonstrators who blocked the entrance of a clinic near downtown Fresno as part of “Operation Rescue,” a nationwide anti-abortion campaign. The Family Planning Associates Clinic, which performs from 75 to 100 abortions daily, was prevented from opening by more than 100 sit-in demonstrators who ignored a police order to disperse. Arresting officers carried the protesters to buses.
