A high speed chase between a Tustin police patrol car and a pickup truck driven by a Garden Grove man ended when the truck crashed through a wall and into a residence at the intersection of Newport Avenue and La Colina Drive early Tuesday, police said.

The driver, identified as William Hoskins, 27, was hospitalized at Western Medical Center, Santa Ana, with internal injuries. No one in the residence was injured, police said.

A police spokesman said Hoskins had been pulled over by an officer, who was standing beside the truck talking to him when he sped away. The officer ran back to his car and gave chase, police said.

Officers said Hoskins was charged with felony drunk driving under a new law that allows the more serious charge in cases of multiple convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to records at the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Hoskins has at least three drunken driving convictions and one reckless driving conviction in the last five years.
