Kentucky Booster Might Be Linked to Cash, Lawyer Says

A lawyer for Dwane Casey, former Kentucky assistant basketball coach, has suggested a booster might be linked to $1,000 found in a package bound for the father of a L.A. Fairfax High School recruit, according to a published report.

Joe Bill Campbell told the Daily News of Bowling Green, Ky., that reporters for the Louisville Courier-Journal and Associated Press provided tips about the booster’s possible involvement in the incident, which was among charges that prompted National Collegiate Athletic Assn. sanctions against the university in May.

Campbell declined to name the booster, but described him as a “close friend” of former basketball coach Eddie Sutton.

Casey left the package, addressed to Claud Mills--the father of then-Kentucky recruit Chris Mills--on a receptionist’s desk with a videotape inside about one hour before it was sealed on March 30, 1988, Campbell said.
