Mini Stock Main Goes to Floyd With Curtis Out

Bill Floyd of Oxnard won the Firecracker 50 Mini Stock oval main event Friday night at Ventura Raceway. Nick Magley of Ventura and Rock Ake Jr. of Moorpark finished second and third.

Mini Stock points leader Gary Curtis of Camarillo did not make the main event after wrecking his car in the figure 8 race.

Street Stock points leader Charles Utts of Camarillo worked his way through heavy traffic from 14th place to win the 15-lap oval main event. Utts also captured the trophy dash and had the fastest qualifying time of 16.76. Jim Firsich of Oxnard and Jeff Bosley of Camarillo finished second and third.

Ventura’s Cory Kruseman, 18, won his second Mini Stock figure 8 main event of the season, edging out points leader Ake by a car length. Tom Stephens of Ventura led from start to finish in the Street Stock figure 8 main event.

Mini Stock heat winners included Kruseman, Paul Moore of Oxnard and Richard Webster of Camarillo. Street Stock heat race winners were Bosley and Pete Marcus of Ventura.

Mini Stock trophy dash winner was Marty Desbrow of Ventura.
