Dancing Spree Wins Suburban by Neck

Angel Cordero rode Dancing Spree to a neck victory Tuesday in the $431,200 Suburban Handicap for 3-year-olds and up at Belmont Park.

The Suburban Handicap is the second leg of the New York Racing Assn.’s handicap triple crown. Proper Reality, who did not compete in the Suburban, won the first leg, the Metropolitan Mile, on May 29. The third leg, the Brooklyn, will be run July 22.

It was also the third victory in nine starts this year for the 4-year-old son of Nijinsky II-Blitey. He earned $258,720 for Ogden Phipps after covering 1 1/4 miles in 2:02 2/5.

Forever Silver, ridden by Jacinto Vasquez, was second in the field of 12, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Easy N Dirty and Richard Migliore.

Cryptoclearance, the favorite, lagged early and finished seventh.

Dancing Spree returned $8.40, $5.20 and $3.80. Forever Silver paid $5.60 and $4.40, and Easy N Dirty returned $5.40.
