The Region : 6 Latinos Get Scholarships

Six San Gabriel Valley Latino high school seniors have received scholarships from Cal Poly Pomona’s Educational Community Project. The program strives to make Latino high school students and their parents more aware of higher education and motivate them to achieve an education beyond high school.

Marisa Gutierrez of Bassett High School in La Puente has been awarded a $20,000 four-year scholarship to Cal Poly Pomona.

Scholarships of $1,000 each have been awarded to Nora Garcia of La Puente High School, who will attend UC Berkeley; Margarita Gutierrez, Bassett High, Cal Poly Pomona; Rose Hererra, Garey High School in Pomona, Mt. San Antonio College; Gerardo Medina, Mountain View High School in El Monte, USC, and Arlene Orta, Gladstone High School in Covina, Cal Poly Pomona.
