Share

With the three major networks hunkered down in summer reruns, it’s up to cable and the Fox Broadcasting Co. to provide a few fresh TV hours this weekend.

On the news front, Cable News Network offers interviews with both Solidarity leader Lech Walesa and Communist Party chief Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski on the eve of President Bush’s visit to Poland. Walesa will appear today on “Newsmaker Saturday” at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., while Jaruzelski will be interviewed Sunday on “Newsmaker Sunday” at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Disney Channel will air the first of a new three-part adaptation of Charles Dickens’ great novel, “Great Expectations,” Sunday at 8 p.m. Jean Simmons stars as the eccentric Miss Havisham, with Anthony Hopkins as Magwitch, Martin Harvey as the young Pip and Anthony Calf as the adult Pip. The miniseries concludes Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m.
