I was elated to see the positive response to the plight of Theresa Saldana. It was in great part due to the fact that The Times made the story known. I want you to know how uplifting it is to see the power of the pen used in a humane and intelligent fashion. The people about to parole this man said they were powerless and had to let him out despite the obvious threat to Ms. Saldana. I kept wishing a reporter would ask one of them, “It it were your daughter who was being threatened, would you still be powerless?”

Thank you for showing that an aroused public opinion can generate solutions to problems that uncaring, unmotivated, and entrenched bureaucrats are unable to find.
