Police officers investigating a family disturbance report in Torrance shortly after midnight Wednesday shot and killed a 24-year-old woman who pointed a gun at them, authorities said.
Lisa Johnson confronted officers with a .45-caliber handgun outside an apartment in the 4200 block of West 182nd Street, and two officers fired, hitting the young woman once, according to Lt. Mike Derhsam. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Johnson had been fighting with a man thought to be her boyfriend, whom she stabbed and wounded. But Dersham said it was unclear why the woman pointed the gun at the officers.
The shooting is under investigation by Torrance police and the district attorney’s office.
