Passing motorists did nothing to assist a 15-year-old girl who was snatched off a busy San Diego street and raped, the Police Department said.

The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday while the girl was skateboarding in the 6000 block of University Avenue, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The attacker, described as a black man with a muscular build between the ages of 35 and 40, grabbed the girl from behind and dragged her behind a building, Robinson said.

The girl told police that, as she screamed for help, passing motorists slowed their vehicles, but no one stopped to assist her. The attacker then took her to a nearby embankment, struck her with his fist, and raped her, Robinson said.

Police are still looking for the rapist, who is about 5 foot 10 and weighs about 170 pounds, he said.
