Mike Rozier of the Houston Oilers agreed to a $5.45-million contract that will put him among the six highest-paid running backs in the National Football League, the Houston Post reported.
Sources said the agreement was reached during a 10-hour negotiating session Friday in Washington. The Oilers said the deal has not been completed.
The Post said Rozier will earn $850,000 this season, and his pay will increase from $900,000 in 1990 to $1.4 million in 1993. None of the contract is guaranteed, the newspaper said.
